Live chat

Last Updated 3 months ago

To enable the chat for a live event, toggle the "Chat" button on the media page of the live event.

Once enabled, the chat will appear below the video in any preview links and if the video is published on a videosite the chat will also appear below the video there.

The Embed button generates an embed code for the embed widget only, the Iframe box generates an embed code for the player without the chat widget.

When chat is enabled, the Embed code icon under the player preview has an option to include the chat embed code in the player embed code:

Chat Administer Page

Clicking the Administer button takes you to the Chat Administer page. From there, you can remove posted messages and send messages as a moderator. Before sending the first message you will be prompted to enter your name.

Multiple chat rooms
Quickchannel support multiple chat rooms (up to 6). This way you can keep different topics separated. Add and remove chat rooms in the Chat administer page.

Add chat room and specify a name for your new room. Toggling Approve messages will enable a moderated chat, making new chat messages from viewers hidden. These chat messages must be approved by a moderator to be visible to other viewers.

Your chat rooms will appear in tabs in the chat administer page

To pin a message, select the pin icon on any chat message to move it to the top of the chat room. Once pinned, you can unpin it by clicking the same icon again.
Only one message can be pinned at a time. If you attempt to pin a new message while another is pinned, a warning will notify you that the current pinned message will be replaced by the new one.

Links

In the links section, you will find various links for quick access from the chat admin page:

  • Videosite: If you have a Quickchannel video site, you can find a link to it here.
  • Preview Page: Use this menu to obtain a shareable link for your stream, which displays both the stream and the chat for your viewers.
  • Moderator Link: This link provides administrator access to the chat, allowing anyone to help moderate without needing a Quickchannel account login. Do not share this link with viewers, as it grants full chat access.
  • Participant Chat Link: This standalone link displays the chat only. It can be shared via a direct link or QR code, enabling viewers to have the chat in a separate window.

HTML Input

Moderators can use insert basic html in messages. This included the use of bold,
italics and underline text formatting as well as the input of links in messages.
Note that this functionality is only available for moderators, not for viewers
joining your chat.
