This article gives a quick overview of how you can work with live streaming and Quickchannel.

Quickchannel utilizes adaptive live streaming, which means that the live stream is encoded into multiple resolutions to fit different screens. This is all done in real time and virtualized cloud instances are used to encode streams. For this reason starting a live stream takes a couple of minutes as the virtual instance is being prepared.

A live event from beginning to end basically consists of the following steps:

1. Before getting started, read our general recommendations. To better understand how live events work in Quickchannel, read about the live event timeline.
2. Setup a Live Event in Quickchannel. This requires a live channel (what are live channels?)
3. Publish the event, it automatically shows a countdown to the scheduled start time.
4. Configure your encoder. Here is a checklist with the information that you need to adjust the settings of your encoder.
5. Setup your encoder to stream to the correct live channel (you normally only need to do this once).
6. Wait for the preview player to become available and then start streaming.
7. Your event is now ready to go and you can use the live event controls to start and stop your event.
8. After the event has finished, it is automatically available as a recording.
